Damboree Notes for a Safe and Happy Holiday

We all look forward to the various Damboree activities each year so we thought we'd recap some important things to remember to keep the holiday fun for all participants.
PRE PARADE SET UP: Everyone wants to have a great view of the parade. However, you may not erect EZ Ups, tents, shade structures, or chairs along the parade route prior to 5:00AM on July 4. Violators may have their items removed by staff. There is no parking along the parade route. Do not move traffic control devices, fences, or crowd control devices.
PANCAKE BREAKFAST: Come have breakfast with your neighbors at the Rotary Club's Pancake Breakfast beginning at 7:00AM at Bicentennial Park. It's a great way to start the day!
DAMBOREE PARADE: This much-loved tradition kicks off at 9:00AM with a bunch of festive floats, marching bands, political candidates and more. The Damboree Grand Marshals are:
“This year, the Committee accepted nominations for Grand Marshal and felt they all had great qualities,” said Jami Goudy from the Damboree Committee. “They are all great nominees, but two will tug at the heartstrings – Caz Kusak, and ‘Seven’ and his family.” Caz Kusak was a Damboree hometown favorite who died this month at the age of 76. The parade will hold his place in memoriam. Seven is the puppy that was beaten, kicked and left for dead two years ago. As his story went viral, the Aspey Family adopted him in 2024. Other marshals are Barbara Agostini, Azure Fecteau, Robert Garlow, Justin Grigg, Scott Hinson, Carolyn Klein, Dawn Lee, Charm McElree, Dyanah Musgrave, Mike Pacini, Jack and Christine Ritoli, Don Rodriguez and Leslie Woodbury.
Please be respectful of all parade participants. We are very fortunate that many groups and people choose our parade over other activities in Nevada for America's 250 Birthday. Remember this is a hometown event with many children present. It's up to the adults to model positive behavior during the activities.
Because of past behavior, we are gently reminding attendees and parade participants of some of the parade rules. Such as:
- NO water play will be allowed on the parade route from the start of the parade on Colorado Street to Avenue A. Non-water entries are not to have water at all. The water zone begins on Fifth Street past Avenue A to Avenue B on Fifth Street and Avenue B past the swimming pool (861 Avenue B). No other areas are designated for water play.
- Water entries can engage with parade spectators only after the spectator has made the first move. This is a sign that they want to engage in “water play”. We do not want unsuspecting, unprepared spectators to accidentally get soaked. Participants may not exit their vehicle/float to engage in water play. Keep your water engagement in a playful mode.
- Absolutely no water balloons or other projectile devices are permitted in the water play zone or anywhere along the parade route.
- No pressure washers, power sprayers, or hoses with nozzles that increase pressure are allowed for spectators or participants. Several children and elderly people have been injured by these devices.
Failure to follow these rules could lead to the elimination of the water zone in future Damboree Parades. No one wants to see that happen, so keep the water play fun and respectful for participants and spectators. Parade staff will be along the parade route observing the parade.
If you can't make the parade in person, the City will be offering a FREE live stream of the parade on social media. Additionally, the Damboree Parade will be live-streamed worldwide with 250 cities celebrating 250 years on Earthcam.com. The City will also stream it on social media. Visit www.bcnv.org/damboree for the route and schedule of events.
ROBERT BROADBENT MEMORIAL PARK: In addition to all the other activities scheduled immediately after the parade (schedule available HERE), a special event will be taking place at the park at 1:00PM:
Last week, City Council approved a resolution recommending the World War II and Korean War Monument and Flagpole in Robert Broadbent Memorial Park (1305 Fifth Street) for local designation as an individually eligible property for listing on the Boulder City Historic Property Register. “This recommendation began with the Historic Preservation Commission and received unanimous support by both the Historic Preservation Commission and City Council,” said City Manager Ned Thomas. “The timing aligns with the original dedication of the site on July 4, 1959, by then-Governor Grant Sawyer.” To recognize the historical significance and anniversary, the American Legion will raise a US flag with 49 stars (just as there were in 1959) on Independence Day at 1:00PM at the site.
VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK: An entry fee for $20 is charged for each vehicle entering the park. The fireworks show is scheduled to begin at 9:00PM. Because this is a Special Event, please note that all animals must be leashed for their safety and the safety of others.
ELDORADO VALLEY DRY LAKE BED: As has been the case since 2014, the Eldorado Valley Dry Lake Bed Recreation Area is closed to the public July 3 until July 5. In 2014, City Council approved Resolution 6124, closing the recreation area annually during this timeframe. Violators are subject to fines and possible jail time.
SAFE AND SANE FIREWORKS: Safe and sane fireworks are the ONLY fireworks permitted in Boulder City and the surrounding area. They must be used on private property. They may be enjoyed up to 11:59PM on Saturday, July 4. Those who choose to use illegal fireworks not only endanger themselves, spectators, and nearby property, they also risk fines starting at $500 for possession or use of these fireworks. Even with the safe and sane fireworks, please be mindful of your neighbors who may have small children, veterans, or animals who are sensitive to fireworks.
By adhering to these policies, the Damboree should be a good time for all! Have a safe and happy Fourth of July!
